We had many plans for our technically first full day in Tokyo. Since we’ve never been to Japan before, we decided to visit all the touristic destinations first. After all, one need to see them before exploring the unknown.
After having breakfast at the hotel, we decided to head to Shibuya – a major commercial and business district that houses the two busiest railway stations in the world, Shinjuku Station and Shibuya Station.
Our hotel was located about 10 minutes away walking from the subway station that we had to take to go to Shibuya. Here are a few pictures on our way there:
Made it to Shibuya and spent some time wandering around there. It wasn’t as busy as we thought it would be. Mainly because it was Saturday morning and the area seemed a bit sleepy even. I imagine it is way busier at night:
From here we decided to walk to Yoyogi Park – a popular Tokyo destination. Few pics as we are making our way there:
Yoyogi was a really nice park – very peaceful and beautiful:
Next destination – Shinjuku area. We decide to keep walking there – a few pics as we were on our way:
Shinjuku was just as busy and cool as we expected:
We were pretty tired walking by that time and decided to take a train to Roppongi Hills next. Really nice area with great views:
Next on our list was the Imperial Palace – is the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan. It is a large park-like area located in the Chiyoda ward of Tokyo and contains buildings including the main palace, the private residences of the Imperial Family, an archive, museums and administrative offices. We didn’t get a chance to go inside as it was already 5 o’clock and the museum was closing but we walked around a bit. It was pretty there:
A bit more walking – away from the Imperial Palace:
Our final destination that day was Akihabara – an “Electric Town” – a mecca for all things anime, manga and video games. Really busy and fun place. There was some kind of a parade there as well that day:
Back to Asakusa where our hotel was. I call these series “Asakusa by night”:
It was a very long but interesting day. We were happy but dead tired. A new day was ahead of us.
